The Yoga of Strength: Moving from the Core
A core strength yoga workshop integrating exercise science and yoga energetics
Everyone talks about "engaging your core," but what does that actually mean? In this three-day workshop, Joey Gottlieb combines current anatomy research and exercise science with yoga's energetic teachings. Joey is Folk Yoga's Director of Education, an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500), and a Balanced Body Pilates instructor. Together you'll redefine the core as a dynamic system that powers healthy, sustainable, and revitalizing movement.
Through pranayama, movement, and guided imagery, you'll also explore the energetic structures within the core and learn to connect physical strength with the subtle body. You'll build stability, range of motion, and coordination, along with greater clarity and balance. Whether you're deepening your own practice or teaching others, you'll leave with practical tools you can use right away.
What You'll Learn:
Explore core anatomy: see the core as a dynamic structure that organizes movement and supports the spine
Redefine core engagement: learn simple, effective techniques for your own practice and for teaching
Connect breath and core: discover how breath creates an adaptive core that responds intelligently in asana and daily life
Bridge yoga and exercise science: examine where movement science, pranayama, and the subtle body meet in the core and spine
Practice asana and sequencing: work through classic poses and sequences to build core awareness and control
Apply Pilates fundamentals: use mat and prop techniques to enhance your asana Open to all practitioners and yoga teachers.
Current Folk Yoga 300-Hour trainees can take this workshop for elective credit. This workshop counts for 15 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education hours (13 hours of live instruction plus 2 hours of independent study).
